Thank Ye!

Our fair shelter was recently visited by the Girlscouts of Silver Sage, Nampa Troup #31. They did a great job volunteering here and had one of the best bake sales I've ever seen. More than one human here walked around the rest of the day with a look of utter cookie-bliss.

These kind and responsible girls even saw fit to sponsor yours truly. I couldn't believe it. I am so grateful for their help, and lovingkindness.

You kids rock. Thanks so much! I hope we see you all again, very soon.

Humbly,

Rest Well, My Dear

Warm summer sun,
shine kindly here.
Warm southern wind,
blow softly here.
Green sod above,
lie light, lie light.
Good night, Dear Heart,
good night. Good night.
-Mark Twain

This week saw the passing of one of our shelter’s matriarchs. The world is a far less interesting place without Miss Kitty in it.

What I can say about Miss Kitty? She was a tough old broad, with lots of heart. She was the kind of cat who, if she were a person, you could go to her for help, but you’d better not get any crumbs on her kitchen floor. Oh, she may have grumbled at people here and there, but that was just her nature. When you really needed her, Miss Kitty would do her best to make you feel better. She fought the good fight, but in the end decided it was time to move on.

She wouldn’t want you to grieve too much, though. Just remember that she was ready and knew it was her time. Remember her for her lovely bows and gentle crankiness. Miss Kitty went with a happy heart, knowing she was deeply loved.

Miss Kitty, we miss you. Many times today, I thought I saw you in the corner of my eye but when I turned, you weren't there. I know I will someday see you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, but not too soon. Wait for me.

I’m going to go see if I can cadge a few treats, and some comfort from our kind volunteers.

Me-Arrr!

Avast, me hearties! I be Captain Voodoo Vanny, and this, for those not in the know, be International Talk Like a Pirate Day. It’s all official-like, and we kitties do be having fun with it. Why, just today I was talking with me best mate Miss Brandi the Bonnie, and she said it was time to hoist the black flag and have ourselves some adoptions.

So come visit us here at the jolly ship, Simply Cats, or give us a little ringy-diny on the telephony and see which of us strapping pirate-type kitties do appeal to ye.

Eau d'Rotten Eggs

Can you smell that smell? Pyew! Looks like the kittens who had ringworm got their lyme/sulfer bath. I can't wait until someone opens some doors so the shelter can air out.

It's been another great week of being pet and nibbling on treats. Love those treats. I also managed several daring escapes by crouching next to the door and biding my time. Someone has to open it sometime, and then I'll be ready.

I'm trying to make friends with Adel, but she's still pretty upset about life. I don't really blame her. She's 14 years old in people years. That's about 72 years old in cat age. Her owner passed away and Adel was brought here. It's been a hard adjustment for her. I'm just glad she's hanging out in the room outside of her cupboard a little bit, now. She's likely to take a swat or bite at a human, unfortunately. I keep telling her that people are the bee's knees, but she doesn't believe me. She'll come around.

Spike and I had some great conversations this week. We had fun reminiscing about that time a bird got caught inside one of the feeders. Man, was that funny. I don't know how that feathery morsel managed to get in there. Birds can be tricky.

Spike and I both got our nails trimmed this week. Hey, we're secure in our manliness. Manly kitties get pedicures. Seriously.

On The Wings of Love

Whew! June just flew by, and boy are its wings tired. Yeah, I know, it's an awful joke.

Happily, Simply Cats has been hopping with new volunteers. I love seeing all the new faces, not to mention all the new hands that are available to pet me and provide treats. I especially like the crispy Whiskas treats, by the way, just in case you should feel so inclined.

This place has the very best volunteers. Everyone is so good to and with all the cats. I gotta say, it takes real love to come in here and clean our rooms. I personally cannot thank the volunteers enough, though I try my best by rubbing my face against their hands whenever they let me.

Thank you thank you thank you!
